I’m Running To Represent Flint’s 5th Ward
Friends,
I’ve been blessed in my life with wonderful neighbors that I’ve learned so much from. People who go out every day and pick up trash on their block, or adopt their local park, or board up the empty house down the street. Flint is made by neighbors like these and I’m always searching for the best ways to serve my neighbors. My own faith teaches me that we must live out our faith in daily life - working to make the world around us a better place.
For that reason I’ve spent much of my life working every day to fight blight, empower neighborhood groups, grow civic engagement, build quality housing, and more. Yet I know that in Flint we can do so much more. Too many of our commercial corridors are filled with blighted buildings, cracked sidewalks, and potholed streets. In the winter, so many of our parks are inaccessible without shoveled sidewalks. Neighbors worry about how quickly they may get police, fire, or ambulances if they need them in an emergency. On my drive to work each day I pass not one, not two, but five different burned out homes. For many Flintstones, this becomes just a fact of daily life.
Yet we know we can solve these issues. We can improve our commercial corridors so that every neighborhood can have high quality shops within walking distance. We can invest in our infrastructure so that we have streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, and more that are well maintained and safe to use. We can invest in maintenance in our parks and community centers so that our youth have just as good of opportunities as any kid in our region. We can invest in high quality housing that gives people choice, affordability, and opportunity without feeling like they need to leave our city to access it.
With a local government focused on the basics, we can do all of these things. Together we can bring change to city council so that it focuses on the issues that impact your life, not personal disagreements.
If you want to be a part of making this change possible, I’d love to have you join the team. We’ll need neighbors willing to knock doors, send letters, make phone calls, and simply have conversations. No campaign can succeed with a single person, and it’s going to take all of us working together to make it happen. Give me a call or text me at (810) 309-8198 or email me here at admin@votejoelarnold.com.
I’m looking forward to the work, and I can’t wait to get it done together.
